ART DESCRIPTION
The bow that is not allowed to break is an oil painting on canvas that focuses on de-objectifying women bodies for sexual desires, objects of physical, mental, and emotional labor. I am also making a statement with the artwork in this collection by shedding light and asking questions about unfair culture and traditions against African women.
Some men marry women and use them as their maids and spend the rest of their lives pursuing women of their dreams.
The statement above is portrayed in work by the man swing back and forth on a swing between two women. The swing post represents his "wife." The lying woman is intentionally bending backward, signifying that most African women are expected to do the most and bend over even at the detriment of their well being.
